Avon, IN (February 20, 2026) – A 64-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash that occurred on February 18 along Rockville Rd/U.S. 36 near County Rd 525 East, according to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department.
The collision happened around noon when a semitruck traveling eastbound on Rockville Rd reportedly ran a red light at the intersection and struck a northbound Chevrolet pickup. The force of the impact pushed the pickup across the median, where it then collided with a Chrysler Sebring that had been waiting in the westbound left-turn lane.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, identified as Terry Schultz, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle. No other serious injuries were reported among those in the other vehicles involved.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Terry Schultz.
How Red-Light Violations Contribute to Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Collisions involving red-light violations often result in severe or fatal injuries, particularly when heavy vehicles like semitrucks are involved. On high-traffic roads such as Rockville Rd/U.S. 36, the combination of speed, intersection timing, and cross-traffic can lead to devastating chain-reaction crashes.
In this incident, the initial impact forced one vehicle into another, creating a multi-vehicle situation that was difficult for others to avoid. These types of crashes highlight how a single traffic violation can ripple outward and affect multiple lives.
Traffic safety advocates continue to push for better enforcement, improved signal visibility, and increased driver awareness at intersections to prevent tragedies caused by red-light running.
