San Antonio, TX (February 22, 2026) – Four people were hurt in a seven-vehicle crash Saturday evening on the city’s Northeast Side. The collision happened around 5:16 p.m. in the 15000 block of Nacogdoches Rd and involved a wrong-way driver, according to reports.
Police said the driver of a 2019 black Chevrolet Colorado was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Nacogdoches Rd at a high speed. The pickup then ran a red light at Judson Rd and hit one vehicle in the intersection.
After the initial impact, the Chevrolet was redirected and crashed into six more vehicles. Officers at the scene said the force of the collision sent one vehicle airborne into others nearby. Another vehicle flipped over, trapping its driver inside and causing serious injuries.
Emergency units took three drivers from the struck vehicles to local hospitals for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet was also hospitalized. Authorities said all four people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was reported to have a broken collarbone and a broken shoulder.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Wrong-Way Crashes Often Lead to Multi-Vehicle Collisions
Wrong-way crashes can quickly turn into large, multi-vehicle incidents, especially on busy roads like Nacogdoches Rd. When a vehicle enters opposing lanes at high speed, other drivers have little time to react. This increases the chance of severe impacts and chain-reaction collisions.
Intersections add another layer of risk. Drivers moving through a green light may not expect a vehicle traveling the wrong direction. The sudden appearance of oncoming headlights or a fast-moving truck can lead to abrupt braking or swerving, which may involve several nearby cars.
High traffic volumes during late afternoon hours can also make conditions more dangerous. With more vehicles on the road, a single wrong-way driver can affect multiple lanes within seconds. Multi-vehicle crashes often result in overturned cars, trapped occupants, and serious damage, even when injuries are not life-threatening.
