Emergency units arrived to find a small, unattached garage engulfed in flames. Officials said the intense heat from the blaze spread to a nearby home, causing the residence to catch fire as well. During the response, one firefighter was hurt. The firefighter received treatment at the scene and was then taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. Officials later confirmed the firefighter was released after receiving care.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, and more details may be released as they become available. We are thinking of the injured firefighter as they continue to recover.
How Radiant Heat Can Spread Fire Between Structures
Fires can spread quickly when buildings are close together. Radiant heat from a burning structure can ignite nearby materials without direct flame contact. This is especially common when garages, sheds, or homes are only a short distance apart.
Unattached garages may contain fuel, tools, or other combustible items that allow flames to grow rapidly. Once the temperature rises, nearby siding, roofing materials, or window frames can begin to burn.
Even when a home is vacant, structural damage can be severe if flames extend from another building. Fire crews often focus on preventing further spread while also protecting surrounding properties.
Spacing between structures, fire-resistant building materials, and quick response times all help reduce the risk of fire moving from one building to another in residential areas.
