Why Left-Turn Crashes at Busy Intersections Can Be Severe
Collisions that occur during a left turn often happen when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of oncoming traffic. Vehicles traveling straight typically have the right of way, which can leave little time to avoid a crash if the turn is made too late.
These impacts frequently strike the side of the turning vehicle, where protection is more limited. This can lead to serious harm for passengers seated closest to the point of contact.
Traffic volume, signal timing, and visibility all affect how safely a turn can be completed. Investigators often review vehicle positions, damage patterns, and roadway markings to understand how the crash unfolded.
