Why Lane Departure Crashes Are Often Severe
Lane departure crashes happen when a vehicle crosses the center line into opposing traffic or leaves its designated lane. These incidents are especially dangerous on two-lane highways, where vehicles travel in opposite directions without physical barriers separating them.
Head-on collisions are among the most severe types of crashes because both vehicles may be moving at full speed. The combined force of impact can lead to fatal injuries or major vehicle damage. Even small steering errors, driver fatigue, or distraction can cause a vehicle to drift out of its lane.
Road conditions, visibility, and speed can also affect how quickly drivers can react to avoid a crash. Clear markings, alert driving, and staying focused on the roadway can help reduce the risk of lane departure accidents.
