Shirley, NY (June 1, 2026) – A woman was injured due to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of William Floyd Parkway and Victory Avenue in Shirley, Suffolk County police said.
Authorities said a 36-year-old woman from Mastic was driving a 2010 Mini Cooper when it collided with a 1999 Jeep operated by a 54-year-old man from Yaphank. The crash happened at around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 30.
The female driver was taken to a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. The other driver was not hurt. Debris and fluid were reported on the roadway after the collision, requiring cleanup by fire personnel. We are thinking of those involved as the driver recovers.
Why Intersection Crashes Often Require Road Cleanup and Traffic Control
When two vehicles collide at an intersection, debris and vehicle fluids can spread across the roadway, creating additional hazards for other drivers. Emergency crews often secure the area and coordinate cleanup to restore safe travel conditions.
Intersections like William Floyd Pkwy and Victory Ave can carry steady traffic flow, which increases the chance of sudden stopping or crossing movements leading to collisions. Even when injuries are not severe, these crashes often require hospital evaluation due to the force involved. Investigators typically examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, and traffic conditions to better understand how the crash occurred.
