Why Do Snowmobile Accidents Happen at Road Crossings?
Snowmobile trail crossings are marked areas where snowmobiles can cross public roads. Even though these crossings are designated, they can still pose risks. Drivers on highways may not expect a snowmobile to enter the roadway, especially in the evening.
Visibility can also be a concern. Snowmobiles are smaller than most vehicles, and lighting conditions at dusk or after dark may reduce reaction time for both riders and drivers. Snowbanks near the road can further limit sight lines.
Riders are often advised to slow down and look carefully before crossing. Motorists traveling through areas with marked trail crossings may also need to stay alert during the winter months when snowmobile activity increases.
