What Causes Vehicles to Overturn in Two-Car Collisions?
Vehicle rollovers during two-car crashes often occur when one vehicle is struck at an angle, particularly near its center of gravity. Side-impact collisions can cause a vehicle to tip and rotate, especially if one wheel rides up over another vehicle or a curb during impact.
Roadway features near commercial entrances, such as turning lanes and traffic slowdowns, can increase the likelihood of angled collisions. When vehicles are maneuvering into or out of parking lots, drivers may misjudge speed or fail to yield, creating conditions for high-force impacts.
Once a vehicle overturns, the risk of injury can increase due to roof intrusion or occupant movement inside the cabin. Investigators will typically evaluate vehicle positioning, impact points, and driver actions to determine how the rollover occurred.
