Why Head-On Crashes at Intersections Are Often Severe
Head-on crashes at intersections can lead to serious outcomes because vehicles may be accelerating or turning at the time of impact. When lanes are crossed unexpectedly, drivers often have little time to react or avoid a collision.
Intersections bring together multiple directions of travel, increasing the chance of conflict. Factors such as misjudged turns, failure to yield, or momentary inattention can quickly result in a vehicle entering the traffic.
In crashes where drivers become trapped, the damage is often extensive. Vehicle intrusion and direct impact forces raise the risk of severe injury, which is why these collisions frequently require prolonged scene work and hospital care for those involved.
