Annandale, VA (March 2, 2026) – A woman was hospitalized in critical condition on Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Annandale, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Authorities reported that the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of John Marr Drive and Ravensworth Road in Fairfax County.

Officers responding to the scene located the female pedestrian and determined that she had been struck while crossing the roadway. Emergency medical personnel transported her to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her current condition remains critical.

Police confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene following the collision. No additional information about the motorist has been released at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.

We extend our thoughts to the injured woman and hope for her recovery.

Pedestrian Crossings at Unsignalized Intersections Present Elevated Risk

Pedestrian crashes frequently occur at or near intersections, particularly where crosswalk visibility, lighting, and traffic flow create complex interaction points between vehicles and pedestrians.

Even in the early evening, changing light conditions can reduce driver visibility. Shadows, glare, and reduced contrast may make pedestrians more difficult to detect, especially if drivers are not anticipating foot traffic.

When a pedestrian is struck by a passenger vehicle, the absence of protective barriers often results in severe trauma. Life-threatening injuries may include head trauma, internal injuries, and multiple fractures, depending on vehicle speed and point of impact.

Investigators examining pedestrian-involved crashes typically assess right-of-way compliance, roadway lighting, signage, speed, and potential distraction factors. Surveillance footage and witness statements may also help determine the sequence of events.
