Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Are Particularly Dangerous
Hit-and-run incidents are especially dangerous because victims often cannot receive immediate help from the responsible driver. Emergency responders rely on witnesses, surveillance, and vehicle evidence to identify the fleeing driver.
Pedestrians struck on roadways are vulnerable to severe or fatal injuries due to the lack of protection compared with vehicle occupants. High-speed impacts, limited lighting, and rural roads can increase the risk of death.
Law enforcement emphasizes the importance of stopping after any crash, as leaving the scene can delay care and lead to additional legal consequences. Rapid reporting and prompt response are critical for preserving evidence and improving outcomes for victims.
