The Dangers Pedestrians Face on Busy Urban Streets
Mixed-use streets like West Foster Avenue may involve varied speeds and different types of traffic. Areas with homes, businesses, and transit routes often see both vehicle movement and people walking nearby.
Pedestrian crashes can occur when drivers and people on foot share the same roadway space. Visibility, lighting conditions, and traffic volume can influence how quickly drivers notice someone crossing or standing near the street.
Urban corridors may also include parked vehicles, intersections, and bus stops that affect sight lines. These factors can reduce reaction time and increase the risk of a serious collision when a vehicle and a pedestrian meet in the roadway.
