Cleveland, TN (March 5, 2026) – A fatal multi-vehicle collision shut down a portion of a major roadway in Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one person dead and causing significant traffic disruptions, according to authorities.
The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. along APD 40 near the interchange with South Lee Highway.
According to the Cleveland Police Department, the accident involved at least two passenger vehicles. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and discovered that one individual had sustained fatal injuries. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased as officials work to notify family members.
Due to the severity of the crash, all eastbound lanes of APD 40 were closed for several hours between South Lee Highway and Blue Springs Road. Traffic was diverted onto South Lee Highway while investigators documented the scene, leading to significant delays for drivers during the afternoon commute.
Members of the Cleveland Police Department’s Crash Imaging Section conducted an extensive examination of the scene to gather evidence and reconstruct how the collision occurred. The roadway has since reopened.
