How Head-on Collisions Often Occur at Intersections
Head-on crashes at intersections often involve turning movements or vehicles traveling through crossing traffic. When a driver attempts a left turn, timing and visibility are key factors that affect whether the maneuver can be completed safely.
These collisions can occur if a driver misjudges the speed of oncoming traffic or if another vehicle enters the intersection unexpectedly. In busy urban areas, multiple lanes and traffic signals can also complicate drivers’ decision-making when making turns.
The impact forces in head-on crashes can be significant because the vehicles are moving toward each other. Even at moderate speeds, the combined force of both vehicles can result in serious injuries and substantial damage.
