Ormond Beach, FL (March 6, 2026) – A woman died, and a man was critically hurt after a motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon, March 5, along High Bridge Road near Walter Boardman Lane in the Ormond Beach area of Volusia County.
Emergency units responded to the crash around 4 p.m. after reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck pulling a trailer. Investigators said a 64-year-old man was riding a 2025 Harley-Davidson Heritage westbound on High Bridge Road with a 57-year-old woman riding as a passenger.
At the same time, a 65-year-old man was driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma eastbound while pulling a trailer. Authorities reported that the motorcycle failed to take a curve and entered the path of the trailer, striking its left side.
The impact threw both the rider and the passenger from the motorcycle. Officials said the 57-year-old woman died at the scene, while the 64-year-old rider was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
Roadway Curves and Motorcycle Crash Risks
Longer roadway stretches near High Bridge Road may encourage higher speeds. When curves appear along these routes, riders and drivers may need to quickly adjust speed and position to stay within their lanes.
Motorcycles can be more affected by sudden roadway changes than larger vehicles. Entering a curve too quickly or misjudging the turn can cause a motorcycle to drift across lanes or move into opposing traffic. When trailers or larger vehicles are present, the available space to correct course may be limited.
Crashes involving motorcycles often result in severe outcomes because riders have less protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. Roadway design, vehicle speed, and turning movements can all influence how these incidents occur, particularly on rural or semi-rural roads with curves.
