Pedestrian Safety Near Hospitals and Busy Intersections
Roads near community facilities, such as hospitals, can attract steady traffic from both vehicles and pedestrians. Locations near emergency room entrances often see vehicles arriving quickly as people cross nearby streets.
Intersections with turning vehicles can pose additional risks to pedestrians. Drivers making turns may focus on traffic signals or other vehicles while someone is crossing the roadway. This can reduce the time available to notice a person walking nearby.
Areas around hospitals may also involve frequent vehicle movement, including people arriving for medical care, visitors, and service vehicles. Road layout, turning lanes, and pedestrian crossing points can all affect how safely vehicles and pedestrians share the space.
