Delray Beach, FL (March 7, 2026) – A train-versus-vehicle collision in Delray Beach on Friday afternoon left one man hospitalized and led to temporary road closures in the surrounding area.

Authorities reported that a southbound train operated by Brightline collided with a passenger vehicle at approximately 1:15 p.m. along Lindell Boulevard on the Florida East Coast Railway tracks.

According to Delray Beach police spokesperson Ted White, the train had departed from the Brightline West Palm Beach Station and was traveling south toward the Brightline Boca Raton Station at the time of the collision.

Officials said the car was struck by the passing train, leaving the driver trapped inside the damaged vehicle. Emergency crews from Delray Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene and worked to extricate the driver.

After being freed from the vehicle, the man was transported to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert. Authorities noted that Delray Medical Center is the closest Level 1 trauma center in the area. His current condition has not been publicly released.

The crash also caused significant traffic disruptions near the railway crossing. Officials temporarily shut down South Dixie Highway south of Lindell Boulevard East, and westbound lanes of Lindell Boulevard were also closed while crews responded to the scene.

Motorists in the area experienced delays as emergency personnel worked to secure the site and clear the roadway.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We extend our thoughts to the injured driver and hope for a full recovery.

Why Train and Vehicle Collisions Often Result in Serious Injuries

Collisions between trains and passenger vehicles are often severe due to the size and speed of rail equipment. Even when trains apply emergency braking, they typically require a long distance to come to a complete stop.

Rail crossings can pose challenges for drivers, especially when trains approach quickly or visibility is limited. Once a vehicle enters the path of an oncoming train, avoiding a collision can be extremely difficult.

Emergency responders often face complex rescue operations in these incidents, especially when occupants become trapped inside heavily damaged vehicles. Specialized equipment may be required to safely extricate victims before they can receive medical treatment.

Investigations into train-vehicle collisions typically review crossing signals, train speed, driver actions, and roadway conditions to determine how the crash occurred.
