US 75 in Texas: A Common Scenario For Car Accidents
US-75 is one of the main north–south highways in North Texas, connecting cities such as Dallas, Plano, Allen, and McKinney. Because it carries large volumes of daily commuter traffic, the corridor frequently appears in regional crash reports. High traffic density, frequent lane changes, and merging traffic from major interchanges can all increase the chances of accidents along busy stretches of the highway, particularly during morning and evening rush hours.
Across Texas as a whole, crashes occur at a very high rate. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the state recorded more than 551,000 reportable traffic crashes in 2024, an average of about 1,500 per day and roughly one every 57 seconds.
That same year, 4,150 people were killed, and more than 251,000 were injured in motor vehicle accidents statewide. On average, one person dies on Texas roads about every two hours.
North Texas also reflects this heavy traffic pattern. Collin County, where McKinney is located, reported 15,475 crashes in 2024, continuing a steady increase from previous years as the area’s population and road use have grown. Regional data also showed more than 13,800 crashes in the county in 2022, including 77 fatalities.
