Why Crashes Involving Utility Poles Can Be Severe
Roadways such as North Tampa Avenue often include streetlights and utility poles positioned close to the roadway. When a vehicle leaves the travel lane, these structures can become fixed obstacles in the vehicle’s path.
Collisions with poles can cause major damage because the structure does not move during the impact. The sudden stop can transfer strong forces to the vehicle and the people inside.
Factors such as speed, loss of control, or sudden steering corrections can lead to vehicles leaving the roadway. When this occurs, the presence of roadside objects like poles or guardrails may increase the chance of severe injuries in the crash.
