Zebulon, NC (March 9, 2026) – Six people were hurt on Sunday evening, March 8, including a toddler, after a two-car crash north of Zebulon in Wake County.

The collision happened around 7:30 p.m. along NC 96 near Poodle Lane in the Hopkins area. Early reports indicate the crash involved an Acura and a Honda Odyssey.

According to troopers, the Acura was traveling north on NC 96 when the southbound Honda Odyssey attempted to turn left onto Poodle Lane. The two vehicles collided in a front-quarter impact that was described as nearly head-on. Emergency units arrived at the scene and assisted those involved in the crash. Six people, including an unrestrained toddler, were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The road was temporarily closed while crews cleared the scene and addressed the damaged vehicles. NC 96 reopened at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.

Why Left-Turn Crashes Often Lead to Serious Accidents

Crashes that occur while one vehicle is turning left can lead to severe impacts. These situations often place a turning vehicle directly in the path of oncoming traffic, leaving little time for drivers to react.

Front-quarter collisions, as the one reported in this crash, can happen when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle. Limited visibility at intersections or rural roads can also increase the risk of this type of accident.

Passenger safety can also vary depending on seat belt use. Young children are particularly vulnerable if they are not secured in proper restraints. Child safety seats and seat belts help reduce the risk of serious injury during sudden impacts.

Road closures after a crash are common while crews work to remove damaged vehicles and restore safe driving conditions for others using the roadway.
