What Factors Can Contribute to Motorcycle Crashes on Interstate Highways?
Motorcycle crashes on interstate highways can occur for several reasons, often related to speed, road conditions, or sudden loss of control. High-speed travel leaves little time to react if something unexpected happens, such as debris on the roadway or a mechanical problem with the bike.
Motorcycles are also more sensitive to balance and traction compared to larger vehicles. A small shift in weight, uneven pavement, or quick braking can sometimes cause a rider to lose control. When that happens at highway speeds, the rider may be thrown from the bike or forced to lay it down to avoid a worse outcome.
Protective gear, clear visibility, and maintaining a safe following distance can help reduce risk. Riders also benefit from staying alert to traffic patterns and road conditions that may change quickly on busy interstates.
