Spring Hill, TN (March 10, 2026) – Early morning fog on Monday contributed to a crash between a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck on Main Street in Spring Hill.
The accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. in front of Rippavilla Plantation. Reports indicate the semi-truck was attempting a U-turn when a sedan struck the truck’s fuel tank. The collision damaged the tank, causing approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel to spill.
Emergency units responded to manage the fuel spill and secure the area. The northbound lanes of Main Street were closed for about two hours while crews cleared the scene. The driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries, and the semi-truck driver was uninjured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Fog and Low Visibility Contribute to Crashes
Fog reduces visibility, making it harder for drivers to judge distances and see other vehicles or roadway hazards. In low-visibility conditions, sudden maneuvers such as U-turns or lane changes carry a higher risk of collisions.
Vehicle speed and reaction time are also affected, as drivers may not see obstacles until it is too late to stop safely. In crashes involving large vehicles like semi-trucks, damage can be amplified due to the truck’s size and fuel capacity.
Emergency crews often need extra time to manage spills or debris safely. Fuel spills, in particular, require specialized handling to prevent fire hazards and environmental contamination. Road closures are typically necessary until the scene is cleared and safe for traffic.
