Hannovet Street in Manchester: An Important Local Connector
Hanover Street is a well-known roadway in the downtown area of Manchester. Running generally west to east through the city’s central district, it functions as an important local connector between several commercial, residential, and civic areas.
The street passes through parts of the downtown business district and nearby neighborhoods, linking smaller local streets with some of Manchester’s larger transportation routes.
Along its route, Hanover Street intersects with several key downtown streets. One of its most prominent connections is with Elm Street, the city’s primary commercial corridor lined with restaurants, businesses, and cultural venues.
The street also connects with Chestnut Street and Pearl Street, both of which run parallel to Elm Street and help distribute traffic through the downtown grid. On the eastern side of the downtown area, Hanover Street meets Bridge Street, a major east–west route that provides access across the city and toward regional highways.
Beyond the immediate downtown area, Bridge Street connects drivers to larger transportation routes, including Interstate 93, which is one of the primary north–south highways serving Manchester and the broader region.
Historically and architecturally, Hanover Street is notable for containing several older commercial buildings. One example is the Old Post Office Block, constructed in 1876 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
All in all, Hanover Street plays a practical role in Manchester’s street network, linking the downtown core with surrounding neighborhoods while providing access to major city arteries and nearby highways.
