Why Two-Vehicle Crashes Cause Traffic Disruptions
Even relatively minor crashes involving two vehicles can create traffic problems, especially on busy city roads. When lanes are blocked or restricted, traffic may slow or back up in both directions as emergency crews respond.
First responders must secure the scene, check for injuries, and remove damaged vehicles before normal traffic flow can resume. During this process, drivers are often directed into fewer lanes, which increases congestion and travel time for nearby motorists.
Staying alert, reducing speed near crash scenes, and following traffic directions can help keep both responders and other drivers safe during roadway incidents.
