Wabaunsee Co., KS (March 16, 2026) – A woman and four children were hurt in a crash on Sunday afternoon, March 15, along Interstate 70 near the Paxico rest area in Wabaunsee County.
Emergency units responded just before 5 p.m. after reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck. Authorities said a 2007 Ford F-150 driven by 39-year-old Cornellia D. Watson of Topeka was traveling east on Interstate 70 when the vehicle left the roadway on the right side.
Investigators reported that the driver attempted to correct the vehicle’s path, causing the pickup to cross the eastbound lanes before striking a limestone embankment in the median.
Watson and four children in the truck were taken to a hospital in Topeka following the crash. The injured passengers included a 16-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old girl.
The crash remains under investigation, and additional information may become available as authorities continue their review.
