This is an updated version of the original story from February.
Pikesville, MD (March 18, 2026) – A 1-year-old child has died nearly a month after a multi-vehicle crash in Pikesville. The incident originally occurred on February 12, around 7:30 a.m., at the intersection of Old Court Road and Harden Lane.
The child, Nova Hill, was a passenger in a 2016 Nissan Rogue that collided with a westbound 2018 Audi. Nova’s mother, 31-year-old Sydney Jones, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hill was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries and was pronounced dead on Tuesday, March 17. Preliminary investigation found that the child was not properly restrained in a car seat at the time of the crash. The driver of the Audi was also hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
Why Proper Child Restraints Are Vital in Vehicle Crashes
Child passenger safety is a key factor in preventing serious injuries and fatalities during crashes. Properly installed car seats and booster seats help protect children by distributing crash forces and reducing movement inside the vehicle.
Even at low speeds, unrestrained children are at higher risk of ejection or severe injury in collisions. Programs like Kids In Safety Seats (KISS) offer families car seat check events, education on proper installation, and guidance on selecting the right type of restraint for a child’s age and size. Ensuring a child is secured correctly can significantly reduce the risk of harm during a crash.
