Volusia Co., FL (March 19, 2026) – A construction worker died following an accident on Tuesday, March 17, at a road work site near the intersection of State Road 415 and Pioneer Trail in Volusia County.
Emergency units responded to the scene, where officials said 61-year-old Lea Marshall Brunson of Orlando was working as part of an underground drilling crew. According to investigators, Brunson was replacing a drill head when the incident occurred.
Authorities reported that a drill component rotated due to torque buildup, causing a chain wrench to break free and strike Brunson in the head. He was wearing a hard hat at the time, but the impact resulted in fatal injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
