What Makes Bicycle Crashes Involving Children Especially Dangerous?
Roads like 19th Street often carry neighborhood traffic along with passing vehicles, which can create risks for young riders. Children may have less experience judging speed and distance, making them more vulnerable in traffic situations.
Bicycles offer little protection compared to motor vehicles. When a crash occurs, especially involving a child, injuries can be severe due to the direct impact.
Driver awareness and reduced speeds in residential areas can help improve safety. Clear visibility, cautious driving, and attention to surroundings are key factors in preventing crashes involving young bicyclists.
