What Factors Lead to Head-on Collisions on Two-Lane Highways?
Routes connecting residential areas to commercial zones near Highway 44 may back up quickly after crashes. When vehicles cross the center line, they can enter opposing lanes where traffic is moving in the opposite direction.
Head-on collisions often happen with little warning. Drivers in the oncoming lane may have very little time to react or avoid impact, especially at higher speeds.
Lane positioning, driver attention, and roadway design all influence safety. Clear markings and staying within lanes are key to reducing the risk of these serious types of crashes.
