Graves County, KY (March 24, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash involving concrete mixer trucks claimed the life of a driver on KY Highway 94 in Graves County. The crash occurred around 7:20 a.m. on Monday, March 23, just east of the intersection with KY Highway 564.
Authorities reported that two Advance Manufacturing concrete mixer trucks traveling in opposite directions clipped each other as they passed. Both drivers lost control, causing the trucks to leave the roadway. One truck overturned in a nearby creek, and the other came to rest in a field.
One driver, a 24-year-old from Hazel, Kentucky, sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene. The other driver, 48-year-old Jeremiah A. Smith of Eddyville, Kentucky, was found in the overturned truck in the creek and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple emergency agencies assisted at the scene, including fire departments, EMS, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and state and local law enforcement. Recovery and removal of the trucks occupied much of the day. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Smith.
Why Commercial Truck Collisions Are Particularly Dangerous
Crashes involving large commercial vehicles, like concrete mixers, can be especially severe due to the size, weight, and momentum of the trucks. Even minor contact can cause loss of control and overturning.
Roadside hazards such as ditches, fields, or waterways increase the risk of serious injury or death when vehicles leave the roadway. A response often requires multiple agencies to safely secure the scene, manage traffic, and provide medical care. Truck drivers and motorists alike must maintain awareness, safe distances, and proper passing procedures to reduce the risk of these incidents.
