Stanville, KY (March 24, 2026) – An injury crash was reported late on Saturday night, March 21, along US-23 in the Betsy Layne community of Floyd County. Emergency units were dispatched around 9:58 p.m. to the scene near Cardinal Mart in Stanville. Responders arrived to find two vehicles involved in the accident.
A female driver was reported to have serious injuries and left the scene, entering a nearby apartment building next to a Subway restaurant.
A man who had been in the same vehicle as the injured woman reportedly stood at the top of the apartment stairs and refused to allow responders to reach her. When approached, he also blocked access and did not allow emergency personnel to continue their response efforts.
During the incident, the man acted aggressively toward those at the scene. He resisted being taken into custody and made physical contact with a firefighter and an officer. No injuries were reported from this altercation, and the man was arrested at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
Why Access to Injured Drivers Matters After a Crash
After a crash, quick access to those who are hurt can make a major difference in recovery. Emergency responders are trained to assess injuries, stop bleeding, and provide life-saving care within minutes of arrival. Delays in reaching an injured person can lead to worsening conditions, especially in cases involving head injuries or internal trauma.
Obstructing or delaying aid can also limit the ability to properly evaluate the situation at the scene. Responders often rely on direct contact to determine the severity of injuries and decide if hospital care is needed. In many cases, even injuries that seem minor at first can develop into more serious health issues without timely attention.
Clear access allows responders to act quickly and helps reduce risks for everyone involved.
