Bristol, IN (March 30, 2026) – A deadly crash early on Saturday morning, March 28, left a woman dead and a man injured in Bristol. The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Division Street and Vistula Street.
Emergency units arrived to find a vehicle off the roadway, wedged between a bridge and a concrete structure, and fully engulfed in flames. An injured man was located beneath the bridge and told responders that a woman remained inside the vehicle. Due to the intensity of the fire, crews were unable to reach her before extinguishing the flames, and she was later found dead inside.
The injured man’s condition has not been released. The bridge was temporarily closed while crews assessed damage, but has since reopened after being deemed safe.
The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim, and wish the injured man a full recovery.
What Risks Are Associated with Vehicle Fires After Crashes?
Evening accidents near Division Street and Vistula Street may reduce visibility, especially around bridges and structural features. In Bristol, responders often use additional lighting and safety measures when handling these scenes.
Vehicle fires after crashes can make rescue efforts more difficult. Flames and heat may spread quickly, limiting access to occupants and increasing the danger for both those inside and emergency crews.
Fuel leaks, impact damage, and contact with nearby structures can all contribute to fire risk. Once a vehicle ignites, conditions can change rapidly, making immediate response and safe access critical factors in these incidents.
