What Makes Rural Highway Crashes So Severe?
Crashes on rural highways can be especially serious due to higher speeds and fewer lane barriers. Vehicles often travel long stretches without stopping, which can increase the force of impact during a collision.
Limited access to immediate emergency services in rural areas may also affect response times. This can influence how quickly injured people receive care after a crash.
Road design, including narrow shoulders and fewer protective barriers, can contribute to the severity of these incidents. Visibility, road conditions, and driver awareness all play a role in how crashes occur on rural routes.
