How Fixed Objects Like Light Poles Can Increase Crash Severity
When a vehicle strikes a fixed object such as a light pole, the impact can be severe because the object does not move. This can cause significant damage to the vehicle and increase the risk of serious injury or death.
Crashes involving roadside structures often happen when a driver loses control or veers off the roadway. Factors such as speed, road conditions, or sudden maneuvers may contribute to these incidents.
Urban roads and highways commonly have poles, signs, and barriers close to traffic lanes. These features are necessary for infrastructure, but they can also become hazards when a crash occurs nearby.
