Why Nighttime Pedestrian Crashes Can Be More Dangerous
Pedestrian accidents that occur at night are often harder to avoid because visibility is reduced for both drivers and pedestrians. Dark clothing, limited street lighting, and curves in the roadway can all make it more difficult to see someone ahead in time to stop safely.
Road speed also affects the severity of these crashes. At higher speeds, drivers have less time to react, especially on rural roads where lighting may be minimal. Weather, road shoulder space, and whether a person is walking in or near a travel lane can also shape how a collision unfolds.
In many cases, scene evidence such as vehicle damage, lighting conditions, and the exact point of impact helps provide a clearer picture of what happened.
