How Large Truck Crashes Impact Highway Safety
Crashes involving tractor-trailers can be especially dangerous due to the size and weight of these vehicles, which often far exceed those of standard passenger cars. The force generated in a collision can lead to severe damage, multi-vehicle pileups, and a higher likelihood of serious injuries or fatalities.
When collisions occur on busy interstates, they often result in major traffic disruptions, including lane closures and extended delays. These incidents can also create secondary crash risks as drivers approach slowed or stopped traffic unexpectedly, especially in high-speed areas.
Not to mention, large trucks have longer stopping distances and larger blind spots, which can make sudden maneuvers more hazardous. Maintaining safe following distances, avoiding prolonged travel in blind spots, and staying alert around commercial vehicles can help reduce the risk of serious highway accidents and improve overall roadway safety.
