Sandusky, OH (April 16, 2026) – Three people were injured Wednesday, April 15, after a four-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Perkins Ave just west of State Rte 6. The accident happened at about 4 p.m. when a 40-year-old pickup driver from Huron was heading east and struck the rear of a school bus that was slowing for traffic.

The impact pushed the bus into a sedan ahead of it, which then collided with another sedan in front. Two Perkins Local Schools students on the bus suffered minor injuries, and the pickup driver was also hurt with injuries described as non-life-threatening. All three were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

There were 52 people aboard the school bus at the time of the collision. Emergency units responded to the scene and worked to assist those involved while traffic was affected in the area.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and more details may be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.

How Multi-Vehicle School Bus Crashes Are Typically Reviewed

After a crash involving several vehicles and a school bus, early reports usually focus on how traffic conditions may have contributed to the chain reaction. Investigators often review whether the lead vehicle slowed suddenly, how much following distance each driver had, and how quickly drivers were able to react.

Bus occupancy can also affect how injuries are assessed, especially when children are involved. Even in lower-speed crashes, sudden movement inside the bus may lead to minor injuries from seats or abrupt stops.

Road layout near busy intersections or highway access points may also provide added context. Traffic backups, merging patterns, and afternoon congestion often help explain how one rear-end impact can quickly involve multiple vehicles.
