Why Serious Crashes on Rural Highways Can Require Air Transport
Crashes on rural roads can sometimes lead to delays in reaching advanced medical care, especially when injuries are severe. In these situations, medical helicopters are often used to transport patients more quickly to trauma centers.
Entrapment can also add complexity to a crash scene. When someone is trapped inside a vehicle, crews must carefully remove parts of the vehicle to safely reach and free the person.
Road closures are common during these incidents to allow enough space for rescue operations and aircraft landings. Detours help keep traffic moving while responders focus on providing care and clearing the scene.
