Moses Lake, WA (April 22, 2026) – Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday morning near Moses Lake on SR-17.
The collision occurred around 10:40 a.m. when a pickup truck attempted to re-enter traffic from the southbound shoulder. Reports indicate the driver, identified as 95-year-old Neil Fulwiler of Malaga, failed to yield and struck a sports car traveling on the roadway.
The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest on the northbound shoulder. Fulwiler and his passenger, 84-year-old Ruth Wahl, were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the sports car, 51-year-old Michele Razey of Quincy, was flown to another medical center for care.
Traffic in the area was slowed for several hours following the crash. Authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the incident.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Re-Entering Traffic From a Shoulder Can Lead to Serious Crashes
When a vehicle pulls onto a highway shoulder, safely merging back into traffic requires careful timing. Drivers must watch for oncoming vehicles and judge speed and distance before re-entering the lane.
Failure to yield when merging can result in side-impact crashes. These types of collisions often happen quickly and may leave little time for other drivers to react.
Highway speeds can increase the severity of these incidents. Even a small miscalculation can lead to significant damage and injuries. Clear visibility and patience are key factors when attempting to rejoin active traffic lanes.
