Why Wrong-Way Crashes Often Lead to Severe Outcomes on Highways
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of highway accidents because they often involve vehicles moving at high speeds directly toward each other. These incidents commonly occur during late-night or early morning hours, when visibility may be lower and traffic patterns are lighter.
Head-on impacts tend to cause more serious harm than other types of crashes due to the combined force of both vehicles. Even with modern safety features, the risk of fatal outcomes remains high in these situations.
Highways with multiple entry and exit points can increase the chance of driver confusion, especially in unfamiliar areas. Clear signage, proper lighting, and driver awareness are all factors that can help reduce the likelihood of these events.
