What Makes Head-on Crashes So Dangerous on Rural Highways?
Head-on crashes often occur when vehicles traveling in opposite directions enter the same lane. On rural highways, higher speeds and fewer lane barriers can increase the risk of these collisions.
Road conditions, visibility, and driver behavior may all influence how these crashes happen. Curves, limited lighting, or distractions can make it harder to stay within a lane, especially at night.
Because of the direct impact between vehicles, these crashes can result in severe damage. Even with safety features like seat belts and airbags, the force involved can lead to serious or fatal injuries.
