How Fire Response Levels Increase During Large Residential Fires
Fire response levels, often called alarms, indicate how many resources are needed at a scene. A second or third alarm means additional firefighters and equipment are requested to handle the situation.
Larger residential fires may require more personnel due to the size of the building and the need to control flames across multiple floors. Crews may also work to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
Access to water, building layout, and fire intensity can all affect how a response is managed. Increasing the alarm level helps ensure enough support is available to control the fire and protect surrounding areas.
