Intersections such as Beaver Avenue and Hickman Road can create risk due to turning movements and traffic signal changes. When serious crashes occur in Des Moines, crews often work to stabilize traffic flow and reduce hazards.
The crash remains under investigation. Additional details may become available as authorities continue their review. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
How Traffic Signal Violations Can Lead to Intersection Crashes
Crashes at intersections often occur when drivers fail to obey traffic signals. Running a red light can place vehicles directly in the path of crossing traffic, increasing the likelihood of a collision.
These incidents can happen quickly, leaving little time for other drivers to react. Even when one vehicle is traveling at a normal speed, the unexpected movement of another can lead to a serious crash.
Traffic signals are designed to control flow and reduce conflicts between vehicles. When they are ignored, the risk of injury rises, especially in busy areas where traffic flows in multiple directions meet.
