What Causes Vehicles to Roll Over in Two-Car Collisions?
Rollover crashes often occur when a vehicle is struck at certain angles or when it loses balance after impact. Even at moderate speeds, contact with another vehicle, curbs, or uneven surfaces can cause a car to tip and roll.
Vehicles with higher centers of gravity, such as SUVs or vans, are generally more susceptible to rollovers. Sudden steering corrections or attempts to avoid a collision can also increase the likelihood of a rollover event.
While some rollover crashes result in minor injuries, they carry a higher risk due to the forces involved and the potential for occupants to become trapped, requiring extrication by emergency crews.
