Lynchburg, VA (April 27, 2026) – Two people were hospitalized following a rollover crash Saturday afternoon, along Trents Ferry Road in Lynchburg.

According to the Boonsboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, crews were dispatched to the scene around 4:55 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious vehicle accident. Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle on its side next to a tree with two occupants trapped inside.

Emergency responders worked to safely extricate the individuals, removing the roof of the vehicle to reach one of the occupants. Both victims were successfully freed from the wreckage and transported to Lynchburg General Hospital.

Officials confirmed that the injuries sustained were non-life-threatening. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Why Rollover Crashes Often Require Complex Rescues

Rollover crashes can create dangerous situations for both occupants and emergency responders due to the instability of the vehicle and the potential for severe structural damage. When a vehicle comes to rest on its side or roof, access to those inside becomes significantly more difficult.

In many cases, specialized tools such as the “jaws of life” are required to cut through the vehicle’s frame and remove doors or the roof. These extrication efforts must be performed carefully to avoid causing further injury to those trapped inside.

Factors such as speed, road conditions, and impact with objects like trees or curbs can contribute to rollover accidents. Wearing seatbelts and maintaining control of the vehicle are key to reducing the risk of serious injury in these types of crashes. Emergency responders’ training and quick action are often critical in ensuring safe rescues.
