Suffolk, VA (April 27, 2026) – A pedestrian has died following a crash Saturday night at the intersection of Bridge Road and Bennetts Creek Lane in Suffolk.

Police responded to the scene around 9:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have identified the man as 40-year-old Aaron Geister of Suffolk following notification of next of kin.

The driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No charges have been announced at this time. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Suffolk Police.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.

What Factors Contribute to Pedestrian Crashes at Intersections?

Pedestrian crashes at intersections often occur due to a combination of visibility issues, driver inattention, and complex traffic patterns. Intersections require drivers to monitor multiple directions, signals, and pedestrians at once, increasing the likelihood of missed cues or delayed reactions.

Nighttime conditions can further reduce visibility, making it more difficult for drivers to see pedestrians crossing the roadway. Street lighting, weather conditions, and dark clothing can all play a role in how visible a pedestrian is to approaching vehicles.

Additionally, turning vehicles may pose a higher risk, as drivers often focus on oncoming traffic rather than crosswalks. Both drivers and pedestrians can improve safety by remaining alert, following traffic signals, and making eye contact when possible to ensure visibility and awareness.
