Personal Injury Litigation Police Report Request

Norfolk, VA (April 28, 2026) – One person lost their life, and another suffered serious injuries after a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning, April 28, in Norfolk. The accident happened around 12:39 a.m. in the 6300 block of Center Drive.

Emergency units responded after a sport utility vehicle reportedly left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Investigators said the driver lost control of the SUV before the crash occurred.

Rescue crews worked to remove both occupants from the overturned vehicle. The driver, identified only as a 20-year-old man from Hampton, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old woman riding in the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officials have not publicly released the driver’s identity while family notifications are pending. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

Why Do Single-Vehicle SUV Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries?

Single-vehicle SUV crashes can become severe when a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes fixed objects such as trees, poles, or barriers. SUVs have a higher center of gravity than many passenger cars, which can increase the chance of a rollover after impact or sudden steering movements.

When a vehicle overturns, occupants may face a greater risk of serious injuries due to the force of the crash and possible roof damage. Rescue efforts can also take longer if passengers become trapped inside the vehicle. Road conditions, speed, visibility, and driver reaction time are among the factors commonly reviewed after these incidents. Medical findings and vehicle damage may later provide more insight into how the crash unfolded and why the injuries were so severe.
