What Can Lead to Head-On Crashes on Roadways
Head-on crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses into opposing lanes of traffic. This can happen for several reasons, including driver distraction, fatigue, or impairment.
These types of collisions are usually severe because both vehicles are moving toward each other, increasing the force of impact. Even at lower speeds, the combined motion can result in serious or fatal injuries.
Road design and visibility may also influence how these crashes happen. Two-lane roads without barriers between directions of travel may carry a higher risk if drivers are unable to maintain their lane.
