Left-Turn Crashes Involving Motorcycles
Left-turn crashes involving motorcycles can be especially severe because riders have less protection than people inside larger vehicles. These collisions often happen at intersections, where vehicles may be moving in different directions at the same time.
Pickup trucks and motorcycles also differ greatly in size and weight. This can increase the force of impact for a rider, even when safety gear is used. Helmets can reduce certain injuries, but they cannot prevent all harm in a serious crash.
Morning crashes may also involve changing light, traffic flow, and driver visibility. Intersections with turns require careful spacing and clear sightlines. When a motorcycle and a turning vehicle meet in the same area, the results can be life-threatening.
