Delray Beach, FL (May 1, 2026) – A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a semi-truck along Interstate 95 in Delray Beach.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95, just south of the Linton Boulevard exit. Authorities say a 58-year-old man from Jacksonville crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic when he was struck by a semi-truck hauling a tractor-trailer.
Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to Delray Medical Center for treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The crash prompted the closure of the I-95 northbound exit at Linton Boulevard for several hours as crews responded, investigated, and cleared the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
No additional information about the driver of the semi-truck has been released. The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
What Makes Highway Pedestrian Incidents Especially Dangerous?
Pedestrian incidents on highways are particularly dangerous due to the high speeds of vehicles and limited reaction time for drivers. Unlike city streets, highways are not designed for foot traffic, and drivers do not expect pedestrians to be present.
When someone enters active lanes of traffic, especially multiple lanes, it becomes extremely difficult for drivers—particularly those operating large vehicles like semi-trucks—to slow down or avoid a collision in time.
Visibility, speed, and vehicle size all play critical roles in these incidents. Staying off highways and using designated crossings or safe areas is essential for pedestrian safety, while drivers should remain alert for unexpected hazards on the roadway.
